CHAPTER 3
Calm as a Design Decision
Calm doesn’t happen by accident.
It’s often mistaken for the absence of activity — but that’s not what it is. Calm is the result of many small decisions made with care. Decisions about pace. About sequence. About what doesn’t need to be there.
In my work, I’ve seen how easily calm gets lost.
Projects chase momentum.
Timelines tighten.
Features pile on.
The intention is usually good.
The result rarely is.
What gets sacrificed first is not quality — it’s ease.
And ease, I’ve learned, is one of the most undervalued ingredients in living well.
